| Analysing and understanding the Task is very crucial for a candidate when attempting task-1 of IELTS writing module. A candidate must carefully examine and identify the significant data or information presented in the graph/s, chart/s, table/s, diagram/s, picture/s, flow chart/s, etc. Further he/she should include the same in the description while focusing on the overall trends of the given data or information so as to give a complete synopsis of the given task. Added to these, he/she should be able to compare and contrast the given data or information in order to make the description interesting. Maintaining the length of the description to 150 words is very important. Candidates must remember that anything short of 150 words would be penalized; however no penalty is imposed on description containing more than 150 words, but candidates should always keep in mind that they have got a greater task ahead, and that they would not be left with enough time to complete it. Further, task 2 is more significant and worth more when compared to the first task, and hence candidate must make sure that he/she is left with sufficient time to complete it comfortable and efficiently. Assessment Criteria (in short): The candidates are assessed based on the following criteria: Task Achievement: The candidates are assessed based on how effectively they could analyse, identify, and elucidate the significant data or information presented in the task. Organization: Here the ability of the candidates to organise their ideas and information is assessed. Word Power: Here the word power (vocabulary) of a candidate and his/her ability to use accurately and appropriately is assessed. Grammar Skills: Here the ability of a candidate to structure a sentence, its accuracy and appropriateness is assessed. | |
